Over the past month, we have watched in horror as Vladimir Putin's Russia has launched an illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. We have also been touched by the strength and resilience of the Ukrainian people. In particular, I know we have all been inspired by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the House Committee on Appropriations and Chair of the Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee, announced that the House and Senate included all ten of the Chicago-area community projects he championed in the final Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations Omnibus. The bill passed the House and Senate this week and is now headed to the President's desk for signature, making the project funding the law of the land.

Today, Congressman Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) along with, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.), and 30 Members of Congress delivered a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressing concern for the ongoing safety of Ukrainian employees of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Agency for International Development, and urging the department to continue to assist them and their families in relocating out of the country as needed.

U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (IL-05), Chairman of the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee, announced the inclusion of language in the Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations Omnibus to allow the White House to implement a paid internship program. This is the first time language to provide pay for White House and Executive Office interns has been included in funding legislation.

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Chairman of the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee, announced the inclusion of $25 million to begin implementation of the Accelerating Access to Critical Therapies for ALS Act, or ACT for ALS, in the Fiscal Year 2022 Omnibus Appropriations Act, which passed the House of Representatives last night. In May 2021, Congressman Quigley introduced ACT for ALS, which was signed into law by President Biden in December.

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, spoke with CNN's Kate Bolduan to react to the horrifying attack on a maternity and children's hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine. He called for NATO to immediately provide jets to Ukraine and establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

Today, Representatives David N. Cicilline (RI-01), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), and Mike Quigley (IL-05) introduced H.R. 6892, the Ukrainian Protection Act of 2022, legislation to grant Ukrainians currently in the United States Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to prevent deportation of these individuals back to Ukraine during the current violent conflict.
