Quigley Secures Pay for White House Interns in Government Funding Bill
U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (IL-05), Chairman of the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee, announced the inclusion of language in the Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations Omnibus to allow the White House to implement a paid internship program. This is the first time language to provide pay for White House and Executive Office interns has been included in funding legislation.
Specifically, this legislation would provide the White House internship program with up to $4.5 million to be available to pay students, recent graduates, and recently discharged veterans who are participating in the program. This funding will be given to interns in the form of stipends, awards, subsistence allowances, and cost reimbursements.
"Everyone deserves fair pay—including interns. White House interns are an exceptional group, who have earned a highly competitive position and who work hard to support the daily operations of the executive branch. They deserve to be paid for their service to our country. Providing pay for White House interns will make this incredible opportunity accessible to more individuals from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, giving them the financial security they need to participate in internship programs."
