Stand with Ukraine
Over the past month, we have watched in horror as Vladimir Putin's Russia has launched an illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. We have also been touched by the strength and resilience of the Ukrainian people. In particular, I know we have all been inspired by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
I have attended rallies in support of Ukraine every weekend since the invasion. I have heard from Ukrainian-Americans who are heartbroken to see their parents' and grandparents' country destroyed and I have seen photos of the family and friends still in Ukraine today. My heart is with them.
As Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, I am deeply committed to ensuring Ukraine has the assistance they need from us. The Biden administration has taken many vital steps to help Ukraine during this fight, but I will continue pressing the administration and my colleagues to do more until this invasion ends.
Today, I had the opportunity to hear directly from President Zelenskyy when he addressed a joint session of Congress. I have been moved by every one of President Zelenskyy's speeches, but none more so than today.
President Zelenskyy made a stirring plea for the future of his country. I believe the United States should heed that call.
As President Zelenskyy said today, Ukrainians are fighting for the very values America stands for: freedom, democracy, and independence. We must aid them in that fight. It is time for the United States and NATO to get Ukraine the assistance they need. We should stop quibbling over logistics and get fighter jets to Ukraine and protect the skies over humanitarian corridors.
Even if we do not take this step, we should impose the sanctions President Zelenskyy requested today.
To quote President Zelenskyy: "to be the leader of the world, means to be the leader of peace."
