Health Care Open Enrollment is now underway and the deadline to receive coverage for 2017 is just around the corner!

The holiday season is a joyous time filled with friends, family, and appreciation for the blessings in our lives. I have several things to be thankful for, including the opportunity to represent all of you in Congress.

I want to take this time to thank our nation’s heroes for their courage and commitment, which have preserved the ideals of democracy, liberty, opportunity and justice for all, upon which our great country was built.

Our legislation will help law enforcement officials better enforce current gun laws and ensure that guns stay out of the hands of dangerous individuals.

Currently, one in five women and one in sixteen men are sexually assaulted on college campuses in the United States. Sadly, a staggering 90 percent of those cases go unreported.

Now that Congress has adjourned for a seven week district work period, I’m sad to report that the House has decided to kick the can down the road on a number of critical issues facing our nation.

During times of tragedy, the American people are quick to mobilize in solidarity with the affected community. We witnessed that compassion as many Floridians rushed to donate blood for the victims being cared for in local hospitals.

There are over 100,000 bridges in the U.S. that are over 65 years old, and in Chicago, we have a century old transit system that desperately needs updates to keep up with increased capacity.
