1. Introduced Legislation to Protect Illinois Communities from Flooding

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL-05), and U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), reintroduced the bicameral Flood Mapping Modernization and Homeowner Empowerment Pilot Program Act of 2024.  The bill would establish a pilot grant program through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to allow cities to develop better methods for mapping, understanding, and mitigating urban flooding while sharing findings with the federal government.

This Sunday marked ten years since 17-year-old Laquan McDonald was shot and killed by a Chicago police officer. Laquan’s death shocked our city and led to demands for change in law enforcement and accountability from Chicago’s leaders.

Today, U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (D-IL-05), Eric Sorensen (D-IL-17) and U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) announced $33,510,000 in federal funding from the Department of Transportation’s Airport Terminal Program.

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL-05) and U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) announced $81,301,065 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) INFRA (Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects) Program for the Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency (CREATE) Program, which aims to reduce traffic delays, increase rail junction safety, and improve mobility throughout Chicago.

Ten years ago today, 17-year-old Laquan McDonald was shot and killed by a Chicago police officer. Laquan’s death shocked our city and led to Chicagoans demanding change from law enforcement and accountability from Chicago’s leaders. Today, I join all those still mourning Laquan’s death and still demanding change.

On Monday, we marked one year since the brutal murder of 6-year-old Wadee Alfayoumi. On October 14, 2023, Wadee and his mother Hanan Shaheen were stabbed by their landlord in Plainfield, who targeted them for being Palestinian.

U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (D-IL-05), Jesus “Chuy” García (D-IL-04), Danny Davis (D-IL-07) and U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), announced that the Illinois Department of Transportation will receive $15,805,600 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for improvements to the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) Forest Park Branch.
