Catching Up with Quigley: Week of February 10

E-Newsletters

Dear Friend,

It was another chaotic week in Washington thanks to the Trump administration's latest actions. Nonetheless, I am undaunted in my determination to fight against their harmful policies. Below are just a few of the steps I took this week to stand against President Trump's actions.

1. Called on the Trump Administration to Uphold Peace in the Middle East

We have a unique opportunity at this moment to secure peace between Israelis and Palestinians, if President Trump doesn't squander it. This week, I published an op-ed in the Chicago Tribune calling on the current administration to support the current ceasefire agreement. Trump's recent comments hinting about a possible change in U.S. policy and annexation of the West Bank were deeply concerning. Further, his proposal to remove the 2 million Palestinians who live in Gaza amounts to a call for ethnic cleansing and cannot be allowed.

We are at a historic crossroads. The question now is: Will we reach out and grab this deal or let this historic moment slip through our fingers.

2. Highlighted the Dangers of Eliminating USAID

President Trump and Elon Musk's plan to eliminate the United States Agency for International Development, also known as USAID, makes us less secure here at home. I spoke from the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday to highlight the incredibly important work that USAID does. That work includes tracking global diseases such as ebola and malaria. They also work to lift people out of poverty and promote access to justice, which helps alleviate the root causes of terrorism. For one penny out of every dollar we pay in taxes, I cannot think of a better investment to advance American security.

3. Defended Chicago's Sanctuary City Status

Last week, the Trump administration announced a lawsuit against Chicago and Illinois over our sanctuary city policies. The administration claimed that we don't cooperate in arresting undocumented migrants who have committed crimes. That's simply untrue. I called out this lie and other misinformation spread by the administration in an interview with NewsNation.
