Catching Up With Quigley: Week of January 27
Dear Friend,
My thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted by the tragic accident at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. this week. As a member of the Subcommittee that funds the Federal Aviation Administration, know that I am following this story closely and will be working diligently to find out what went wrong and make sure it never happens again.
1. Saw the Real-World Impacts of Trump's Funding Grab

On Wednesday, I partnered with my colleague Representative Jesús G. "Chuy" GarcÃÂa to help distribute necessities with The Night Ministry, a local organization that provides human connection, housing support, and health care to unhoused Chicagoans. The Night Ministry, and dozens of other Chicago non-profits, rely on federal funding to keep serving our neighborhoods. President Trump's dangerous and illegal funding grab this week put The Night Ministry and all of those organizations in danger. I saw with my own eyes how critical their services are. We cannot let Donald Trump take vital services away from the American people.
2. Stood Up for Transgender Military Members

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump issued a reprehensible executive order to ban transgender Americans from serving in the U.S. Military. Transgender servicemembers have been serving openly and effectively for over a decade. Transgender Americans in the military have volunteered to serve our nation with the knowledge they may have to give their last full measure of devotion. It is unacceptable and offensive to refuse them solely on the basis of their gender. Trump's executive orders for our military are weakening our military readiness while his foreign policy decisions threaten our national security. None of this is making America stronger or safer.

3. Spoke Out Against Trump's Targeting of Immigrant Children
As you may have heard, President Trump sent ICE agents to Chicago over the weekend to target and frighten our immigrant communities. While Trump claims his extreme orders are getting criminals off our streets and will make cities like ours safer, the reality is these crackdowns will actually reduce our safety by making our immigrant neighbors afraid to work with the police. I refuse to stand idly by while this administration tries to create an atmosphere of fear and scapegoat immigrants who have done nothing wrong.
