Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released a statement following the House passage of legislation to honor hockey legend Willie O'Ree with the Congressional Gold Medal. O'Ree was the first black player in the National Hockey League (NHL) and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018. Yesterday, the Boston Bruins' held a special ceremony to retire O'Ree's #22 jersey.

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley's legislation to honor hockey legend Willie O'Ree with the Congressional Gold Medal officially reached the threshold of 290 cosponsors, which allows the legislation to receive a vote in the House of Representatives. O'Ree was the first black player in the National Hockey League (NHL) and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018. The legislation is co-led by Representatives Brian Higgins (NY-26), Tom Emmer (MN-06), John Katko (NY-24), and Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) and passed the Senate in July.

Today, Representatives Mike Quigley (IL-05), member of the House Committee on Appropriations, Ro Khanna (CA-17), Chair of the House Oversight Subcommittee on the Environment, and Raúl Grijalva (AZ-03), Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, introduced the End Polluter Welfare for Enhanced Oil Recovery Act to repeal a tax giveaway that enables the fossil fuel industry to profit off capturing carbon emissions and using them to increase oil production.
