Quigley Statement on House Vote to Hold Mark Meadows in Contempt
On December 14, 2021 U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released a statement following the House vote to hold former Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in contempt of Congress for his failure to comply with a subpoena from the Select Committee on the January 6 Attack:
"As a former member of Congress, Mark Meadows should know better. During his time in office, he repeatedly spoke out about the importance of respecting Congressional subpoena authority. For Meadows to now illegally defy a subpoena after already providing over 9,000 documents only shows how afraid former Trump administration officials are of angering Donald Trump.
"The revelations from Mark Meadows' files clearly indicate that the Select Committee's investigation is proving fruitful. Without their hard work, we would not have learned that, despite downplaying the attack for nearly a year, Mark Meadows, the Trump administration, conservative commentators, and even the President's own family all understood how serious the situation was as it was underway. The release of this information has only made me more confident that the Select Committee will complete their mission to provide the American people with a full accounting of what happened on January 6."
