Quigley Statement on Vote to Raise the Debt Ceiling

December 17, 2021

On December 15, 2021, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government, released the following statement after voting to raise the debt ceiling and avoid a catastrophic default on our nation's debt:

"Today, Democrats acted to avert a catastrophic default that would have sent the economy into a tailspin and threatened the jobs and savings of millions of Americans. Playing games with the full faith and credit of the United States is reckless, dangerous, and unacceptable. Thankfully, with today's vote we put this issue behind us for the coming year."
