Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley's (IL-05) legislation the bipartisan Big Cat Public Safety Act passed the House of Representatives. The Big Cat Public Safety Act, which was co-sponsored by more than half of the House, prohibits the private ownership of big cats like lions and tigers and curbs the exploitative industry of cub-petting.

I so wish that we could all be together today. In any other year, we would be celebrating our veterans at parades and festivals and thanking veterans in person. This year, we honor our veterans – and particularly our elderly veterans – by staying home instead.

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement after PAWS Chicago and the Chicago French Bulldog Rescue announced that they had reached an agreement with the CDC to allow a group of rescued French bulldog puppies to remain in the United States receiving care. Quigley became involved in the French bulldog rescue process last week after being notified by a constituent about the issue.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, health and fitness centers have been forced to close their doors, causing turmoil throughout the industry and putting thousands of jobs at risk.

U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (D-IL) and Fred Upton (R-MI), today introduced a bipartisan bill, the Preventing Future Pandemics Act, which would direct the State Department to work with international partners to shut down commercial wildlife markets, end the trade in live wildlife for human consumption and stop the associated wildlife trade, end the import, export, and sale of live wildlife for human consumption in the United States, and phase out demand for wildlife as a food source.
