Elijah Cummings of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Peter DeFazio of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Gerald Connelly of the oversight subcommittee on government operations, Mike Quigley of the appropriations subcommittee that oversees general government matters, and Dina Titus of the transportation subcommittee that oversees public buildings.

Reps. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, Peter DeFazio of Oregon, Gerry Connolly of Virginia, Mike Quigley of Illinois and Dina Titus of Nevada wrote in the letter that “the White House should not be issuing false claims to justify or conceal President Trump’s conflicts of interest on this matter.”

“By blocking competitors from purchasing the existing FBI headquarters property across the street from the Trump Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue, White House officials had already warned internally that the president’s plan would cost the American taxpayers millions of dollars more—and accommodate thousands fewer—than the longstanding plan to move the FBI headquarters to a new suburban campus,” said the letter from Reps. Elijah Cummings, D-Md; Gerry Connolly, D-Va.; Dina Titus, D-Nev.; Mike Quigley, D-Ill.; and Peter DeFazio, D-Ore.

"There's a lot of anger out there and polarization," Quigley said. "I get why people are frustrated and angry. At the end of the day, I'm not there to scream and shout and pound on tables. I'm there to get things done."

From damaged packages to mail arriving at the wrong address or going missing for weeks at a time, these serious issues are prevalent and persistent across the Fifth District.

"When Illinois homeowners pay more in taxes, they can thank congressional Republicans," said Rep. Robin Kelly of Matteson. "What they are doing to Illinois homeowners is bad policy and makes zero economic sense." Similar statements came from Chicago representatives Mike Quigley, Danny Davis, Luis Gutierrez and Bobby Rush, and Schaumburg's Raja Krishnamoorthi.
