Rep. Quigley joins Jim Sciutto to discuss the recent appointment of Acting Attorney General Whitaker and what it means for the Mueller investigation, as well as President Trump’s public warning that Democrats who investigate him will face retaliation.

Quigley is now the ranking minority member of the Subcommittee on Financial Services, which sets spending levels for the courts, the Internal Revenue Service and election security—the latter a particular interest of Quigley's. But if one other member steps aside for another gig, Quigley probably will go for the subcommittee for transportation and urban development, a nice slot for a Chicago rep.

Quigley, poised to become what is nicknamed a “Cardinal” on the Appropriations Committee, told me on Thursday that with his new power, “I can help dramatically bring resources back to the region, into the state.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), who is set to lead the panel overseeing District affairs, say they will oppose the anti-marijuana rider.

But Quigley thinks Nunes’ “damage is done,” he told The Daily Beast. “He did his damage, he stymied the [Russia] investigation and shut it down. He worked hand in glove with the White House to limit our [investigative] abilities. I don’t see how he has those abilities when we’re in the majority.”

"What's important to me is that people know it's not the Democrats frothing to be Benghazi-like," said Illinois Rep. Mike Quigley, referencing the GOP-led investigation into the 2012 terrorist attack that Democrats say was a political attack on Hillary Clinton. "We'll see what (Mueller) does, how he is treated, and that'll tell us what we have left to do."
