Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) reintroduced the Trafficking Reduction and Criminal Enforcement (TRACE) Act, to help the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) reduce illegal firearms trafficking and make it harder for criminals to obtain deadly weapons.

“The debt ceiling dilemma invented by extremist Republicans has led us to Hobson’s Choice. We were confronted with two options — something or nothing. I have chosen something, because choosing nothing would mean choosing to default for the first time in American history. We have an idea of the irreparable damage a default would have on our country: 8 million jobs lost, diminished retirement savings, increased car payments, credit card bills, and mortgages at record highs.

Today, U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (IL-05), Earl Blumenauer (OR-03) Vern Buchanan (FL-16) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), sent a letter to the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) calling for transparency into its investigation of eight horse deaths that occurred in the leadup to this year’s Kentucky Derby.

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Vice-Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, applauded the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) finalized guidance that extends blood donation eligibility to additional members of the LGBTQI+ community. The new guidance recommends that blood donation centers use an individual risk-based questionnaire to screen all blood donors and removes some existing restrictions on blood donations from men who have sex with men. Quigley has long advocated for a transition to an individual risk-based determination system.

U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL-05) today announced $200,000,000 in federal funding for the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) railcar replacement efforts. This funding comes through the Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Fiscal Year 2022 and 2023 Rail Vehicle Replacement (RVR) Program, helping transit systems with much-needed capital improvements to replace rail rolling stock.

Today, U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (IL-05) and Michael McCaul (TX-10) introduced a resolution seeking recognition of May 2023 as National Brain Tumor Awareness Month. Each year, tens of thousands of Americans receive a primary brain tumor diagnosis which carries a five-year survival rate of only 36 percent for malignant tumors. It is estimated that over the course of 2023 alone more than 19,000 individuals in the United States will die as a result of a malignant brain tumor.

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, visited the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (IAAAP), to tour the facility and receive a briefing on efforts to keep Ukraine supplied with much-needed munitions. IAAAP is where 155mm shells are packed with explosives and packaged for final delivery.
