Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022, abortion laws and access to care have varied substantially from state to state.
Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address:
U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) led several of his top priorities across the finish line in the closing weeks of 2022. On the final legislative day of the year, Quigley secured more than $16.5 million in funding for local community projects and saw President Joe Biden sign his bill the Access to Congressionally Mandated Reports Act into law as part of the National Defense Authorization Act. Earlier in December, Quigley's Big Cat Public Safety Act was passed by the Senate and was also signed into law by the President.
U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) and U.S. Representative Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) sent a comment letter to the Administration affirming Congress's intent that health plans provide covered services regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, including assisted reproduction services such as in-vitro fertilization.
Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government (FSGG), spoke in defense of abortion access for the women of the District of Columbia during the Appropriations Committee markup of the FY23 FSGG bill. Republican legislators introduced an amendment to prevent the District of Columbia from using their own funds for abortion and block FEHB coverage for abortion services.
U.S. Representative Mike Quigley, a member of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, released the below statement on the Supreme Court's decision to strike down Roe v. Wade:
"Today's decision is a shocking reversal of a half century of settled law on women's rights. At least two Supreme Court judges lied to the Senate about their intention to keep Roe in place and have now ensured that Republican legislatures across the country have control over women's bodies.
U.S. Representative Mike Quigley, a member of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, released the below statement following media reports of a draft Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade:
"This draft decision represents the culmination of decades of Republican attacks on women's health care. Mitch McConnell and the radical right mobilized to steal two Supreme Court seats specifically with this goal in mind.
"Let me be clear—the party of ‘small government' wants to control women's bodies.
Last week, Reps. Mike Quigley (IL-05), Val B. Demings (FL-10), Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12), Adam B. Schiff (CA-28), Barbara Lee (CA-13), and Ritchie Torres (NY-15) received a response to the letter they previously sent to U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Acting Commissioner Dr.
