Quigley Statement on Reported Draft Supreme Court Decision Overturning Roe v. Wade

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley, a member of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, released the below statement following media reports of a draft Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade:

"This draft decision represents the culmination of decades of Republican attacks on women's health care. Mitch McConnell and the radical right mobilized to steal two Supreme Court seats specifically with this goal in mind.

"Let me be clear—the party of ‘small government' wants to control women's bodies.

"As a white, cisgender man, I am dedicated to using my privilege and position to fight until every person, no matter their income or race, has the freedom to make their own reproductive choices. I voted in favor of the Women's Health Protection Act in the House last year and I have always fundamentally believed that abortion is a human right.

"Today, abortion is still legal in Illinois. I am confident that I, and every Illinois Democrat, will use all the legislative powers at our disposal to ensure that Illinois is always a haven for reproductive freedom.

"If final, this decision would be shameful. But the Senate can stop it. The Senate MUST end the filibuster and codify Roe."
