U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Vice Chair of the Quiet Skies Caucus, joined his colleagues on a letter to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development requesting that they include in the subcommittee’s fiscal year 2018 appropriations bill two important provisions to help mitigate airplane noise. The Caucus requested that the Subcommittee “provide funding for health studies on the impact of airplane and helicopter noise on communities and… include report language directing the Federal Aviation Administration to conduct an expedited review of their noise standards.”

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD), along with U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), U.S. Representatives Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08), Brad Schneider (IL-10), and Danny Davis (IL-07), met with Illinois Tollway Chairman Bob Schillerstrom to express their support for the Tollway’s petition to the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB) regarding their ongoing dispute with Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) over the Elgin O’Hare Western Access (EOWA) project. The project creates new western road access to O’Hare International Airport along with a new western bypass around the airport.

Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL-5) and Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) announced that the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), has awarded the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) $1,078,300 to fund their Operations Control Center Safety Enhancements Project. The project would add additional safety indicators to the CTA’s Control Center (CC) and better integrate critical information collected from data. The CC coordinates service restoration, emergency responses, and day-to-day service that is provided to over 1.7 million CTA riders each day, across 224 miles of high voltage rail, and movement of over 1,800 buses daily.
