U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) spoke on the House Floor in support of the EACH Woman Act to ensure that every women receiving care or insurance through the federal government be covered for abortion services.

Today, August 26, we celebrate Women’s Equality Day - a day to commemorate the 1920 ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. As the father of two daughters, the ongoing struggle for women’s equality is very personal for me. That’s why it has been an honor during my time in Congress to support women’s rights by advocating for reproductive rights, equal pay, access to paid maternity leave and quality child care.

This coming month, we will witness the continued assault on women's reproductive rights as the Supreme Court hears two separate cases that have the potential to undermine the tremendous progress that has been made over the last 43 years.

U.S. Representative Quigley spoke on the House floor in support of women's reproductive rights in the midst of the Supreme Court's impending case, Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt.

Today, the landmark Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade turns forty-three years old. For forty-three years, the Supreme Court has upheld their decision that a woman's constitutional right to privacy also protects her right to make personal health care decisions about abortion. And, for forty-three years, women have had the constitutional right to access abortion services without government interference. After the unprecedented attacks this past year on Planned Parenthood and reproductive health broadly, it is perhaps more important than ever to wish Roe a resounding happy birthday.

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) urged his colleagues on the House floor to end the Hyde Amendment, which bans the use of federal funds to pay for an abortion, and to support the EACH Woman Act, which ensures health coverage of abortion services for every woman, no matter how much she earns, how she is insured, or where she lives.
