Fighting for a Woman's Right to Choose

Dear Friend,

This coming month, we will witness the continued assault on women's reproductive rights as the Supreme Court hears two separate cases that have the potential to undermine the tremendous progress that has been made over the last 43 years. But I want you to know that I'm working hard in Congress to ensure that women across this country have the right to choose for themselves when and how to start their families.

The Supreme Court will hear Whole Woman's Health (WWH) v. Hellerstedt, a case regarding a deceptive Texas law designed to shut down more than 75 percent of all women's health clinics that provide abortion services in the state. This would take the number of clinics in Texas down from 19 to just 10 clinics for 5.4 million women of reproductive age. The Court will also hear Zubik v. Burwell, a case challenging the birth control benefit to the Affordable Care Act (ACA),asking how far employers can go to prevent their employees from obtaining birth control coverage.

Unfortunately, there are also efforts in Congress to restrict a woman's right to choose. But what many of my colleagues don't seem to understand is that closing clinics in our communities or restricting women's access to birth control won't end the need for abortion - it just turns back the clock and forces women to take matters into their own hands.

As a father of two daughters, the issue of reproductive rights is very personal for me. And I will continue fighting in support of one of the most important rights a woman has: the right to control her own body and make her own health decisions.

Keep making your voices heard at home by showing your support for action on this issue by sharing on Facebook, Tweeting about it or forwarding this email to others.

Sincerely,

Mike Quigley
