Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley, the sole Illinois member of the House Appropriations Committee, told The Spin: “President Trump is picking this fight in search (of) a problem that doesn’t exist. Apprehensions are nearing historic lows, yet border security spending is at an all-time high. Even after passing over $1 billion for border security last year, only 6 percent has been used.”

"These are extraordinary statements. But I was a criminal defense attorney for 10 years. I know that you don't stop an investigation halfway through because you think you have enough. You want to find out everything because you want to protect the American public," Quigley added.

“What’s disheartening for me is that those who have stepped up, are those Republicans who are leaving,” Quigley said on CNN Tuesday, citing Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) as examples of Republicans who voiced their disagreements with President Trump’s criticisms of Mueller.

Rep. Quigley tells viewers that Democrats want to keep the government open, but they won’t allow the President to hold key funding bills hostage to support a wasteful $5 billion Border Wall.

Rep. Quigley join CNN’s “Newsroom” host Jim Sciutto to call on Republicans to step up and protect the Mueller investigation and urge Democrats to be patient regarding the conclusion of the ongoing probes.
