Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House would be opening a formal impeachment inquiry:

"Donald Trump's use of the office of the presidency to pressure a foreign government to interfere in our elections is an unprecedented abuse of power and an impeachable offense.

"I announced my support for opening an impeachment inquiry in May after it became clear that the President's obstruction of legitimate congressional investigations was preventing us from carrying out our duties.

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD), announced that the Chicago Transit Red and Purple Modernization Phase 1 project will receive a $100 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant will be used for ongoing improvements to the Red and Purple heavy rail lines on the north side of Chicago.

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) reintroduced the Trafficking Reduction and Criminal Enforcement (TRACE) Act, which cracks down on the illegal gun market by improving gun tracking data. The bill also repeals the Tiahrt Amendments, which heavily reduces law enforcement's pursuit of criminals who buy and sell illegal guns.

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Vice-Chair of the Sustainable Energy & Environment Coalition (SEEC), introduced the Reducing Waste in National Parks Act, to restore Obama-era guidance banning the sale of single-use plastic water bottles in national park facilities, where possible. The bill is being introduced following Quigley's two-day tour of Yellowstone National Park, where he learned first-hand about the devastating impacts of climate change on Yellowstone and our National Parks.
