U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement in support of bipartisan H.R. 5278, Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA):

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), offered an amendment to increase funding for the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board by $2 million to match the agency’s request so that they can fulfill their mission to defend the privacy rights of American citizens during the Appropriation Committee’s consideration of the Fiscal Year 2017 Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) Appropriations bill.

U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, Robin Kelly (IL-02), David E. Price (NC-04), Nita Lowey (NY-17), Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) and 141 other members called on House Speaker Paul Ryan and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to lift the de-facto ban on federal gun violence research.

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Co-Chair of the Transparency Caucus, and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) released the following statement on a newly released Government Accountability Office report on video and audio coverage of Supreme Court and other appellate court proceedings. The report cites stakeholders who state that the benefits of such coverage include enhancing public access to the courts, educating the public on the judiciary, and providing a useful window into how courts think about the issues in a case. Some of the stakeholders interviewed for the report also raised concerns that coverage of portions of a court’s proceedings may be distorted by the media.

Maxine Waters (CA-43), André Carson (IN-07), Keith Ellison (MN-05) and Raúl Grijalva (AZ-03) to secure inclusion of language encouraging the establishment of an “accessibility performance measure” in the Fiscal Year 2017 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations bill, which was passed by the Appropriations Committee earlier this week.

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD), secured language in the Fiscal Year 2017 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill that requires the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to identify short and long-term noise mitigation measures at O’Hare, as well as requires the FAA to reevaluate its criteria for sound insulation and provide airports with more flexibility on awarding insulation including second round insulation.
