Representing the 5th District of Illinois

Quigley Statement on Passage of Continuing Resolution

Sep 29, 2016
Press Release

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement after House passage of a continuing resolution to fund the government through December 9, 2016:

“The American people sent us here to work across party lines and make the tough decisions to tackle the most difficult challenges facing this country. Instead, with just days to spare before a government shutdown, Congress has done the bare minimum by passing a short-term continuing resolution. Forcing the country to the brink of another devastating shutdown, just to keep the lights on for another 10 weeks is not only an inefficient form of budgeting, but also irresponsible and reckless. While I was encouraged to see that the continuing resolution includes $1.1 billion in emergency funding to combat the Zika virus and yearlong funding for critical Veterans Affairs programs, I strongly believe that Congress should pass a long-term, fiscally responsible budget that prioritizes funding in areas like infrastructure, education, and research & development. That is the kind of pro-growth, responsible governing the American people deserve.”
