"The impact that independent and locally owned businesses have on our communities comes as no surprise. The lasting economic, social, and environmental outcomes are essential to the growth and sustainability of our neighborhoods. More than seven years ago, a non-profit organization named Local First Chicago was formed with one purpose in mind, to educate citizens, community groups, and policy makers about the positive impacts of choosing locally owned businesses. It is a network of locally owned, independent businesses, community organizations, and citizens that has grown to more than 3,000 local business owners," said Rep. Quigley "

The Chicagoland organization currently trains rescued pit bulls to become service dogs for veterans in need. "An estimated 50,000 people die every year as a result of seizures. Some of those victims are youngsters like Danny Stanton. Chicagoans Mike and Mariann Stanton founded the Danny Did Foundation after their four-year old son Danny died from a seizure while he was sleeping. The Foundation is dedicated to preventing deaths caused by seizures and raising epilepsy awareness among the public and medical community," said Rep. Quigley. "

"Sure, we cant stop them with 100 percent certainty, but we can make it a lot harder for would be assassins. We can ensure every gun is purchased after a background check, rather only 60 percent of guns, as is currently the case. And, we can reduce the fatality rate by banning assault rifles and high-capacity magazines that are designed exclusively for killing dozens of people at once" said Rep. Mike Quigley.
