This week, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), along with 34 members of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus and the Congressional Ukraine Caucus sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, urging him to take steps to protect LGBTQ+ individuals and other minorities in Ukraine. In the letter, Members noted the additional risks the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized communities are likely to face now that an invasion by Russia has begun.

"Let me be clear—no matter what pretext they may claim, today the Kremlin ordered an invasion of Ukraine. Donetsk and Luhansk are part of Ukraine, not Russian fiefdoms. Any deployment of troops to those regions is an unprovoked violation of an independent nation's territorial sovereignty the likes of which we have not seen since World War II.
