This Sunday marked ten years since 17-year-old Laquan McDonald was shot and killed by a Chicago police officer. Laquan’s death shocked our city and led to demands for change in law enforcement and accountability from Chicago’s leaders.

On Monday, we marked one year since the brutal murder of 6-year-old Wadee Alfayoumi. On October 14, 2023, Wadee and his mother Hanan Shaheen were stabbed by their landlord in Plainfield, who targeted them for being Palestinian.

On Monday, we recognized the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel. This attack was the greatest assault on the Jewish people in Israel’s history.

On Wednesday, a 14-year-old student opened fire in Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, killing two fellow students and two teachers. I am outraged by yet another act of senseless violence in our schools.

Last Saturday, I spent the day visiting with various community groups. For our first stop, we celebrated Family Day with the North Center Neighbors Association. Next, we visited the Bowmanville Summer Social, hosted by the Bowmanville Community Organization.

On Tuesday, I joined my colleague Congressman Chuy García on a tour of the Pilsen neighborhood! For our first stop, we visited Mujeres Latinas en Acción, a bilingual non-profit dedicated to providing domestic violence and sexual assault services to Latinas and the broader community.

On Thursday, I had the privilege of speaking at Wrigley Field's fourth Oath Ceremony. This was their largest naturalization ceremony to date, with 981 individuals from 97 countries becoming citizens.
