Elijah Cummings of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Peter DeFazio of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Gerald Connelly of the oversight subcommittee on government operations, Mike Quigley of the appropriations subcommittee that oversees general government matters, and Dina Titus of the transportation subcommittee that oversees public buildings.

On Friday, the lawmakers sent a letter to the White House chief of staff, John F. Kelly, seeking documents regarding the F.B.I. project and taking issue with Ms. Sanders’s statement. In addition to Mr. Cummings, the letter was signed by Representatives Gerald E. Connolly of Virginia, Peter A. DeFazio of Oregon, Mike Quigley of Illinois and Dina Titus of Nevada.

The lawmaker who questioned her at the hearing, Representative Mike Quigley, Democrat of Illinois, said in an interview that he believes Ms. Murphy misled him and his colleagues. He said he is eager to question her further: “What was said in those meetings?”

In April, Murphy did not disclose she'd met with the President about the project when asked by Rep. Mike Quigley, an Illinois Democrat, during a congressional hearing if the President or anyone at the White House was involved in the discussions about the future of the FBI building.

Three months later, during a congressional hearing, Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) asked the GSA’s Emily Murphy, “To your knowledge, was the president or anyone else at the White House involved in those discussions, either with your predecessors, people you’re working with now, or yourself?”
