U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement after learning of the death of Representative Elijah Cummings (MD-07), Chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform:

"This is a heartbreaking loss for Baltimore, Congress, and our entire country. Chairman Cummings was a giant of this institution and an American patriot. At a time when our country so deeply needs moral guidance, his loss will be felt deeply. I have no doubt that his legacy of fighting for freedom and justice will live on."

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a Vice-Chair of the Congressional Quiet Skies Caucus, pressed FAA Administrator Stephen Dickson on the FAA's lack of responsiveness to concerns about air traffic noise around O'Hare International Airport and other airports around the country. Quigley's questions for Dickson took place during a meeting between Administrator Dickson and the Congressional Quiet Skies Caucus. Quigley released the following statement following the meeting:

Rep. Mike Quigley (IL-05) visited City Clerk of Chicago Anna Valencia's City Hall office this week to receive his CityKey card, a city government-issued ID that also functions as a Chicago library card, Ventra card, and discount card for participating organizations and businesses in the Chicago area. The CityKey program was started in 2017 to provide undocumented and homeless Chicagoans a government-issued ID when they are unable to access other forms of identification.

Last week, Representatives Mike Quigley (IL-05), Sean Casten (IL-06), and Paul Tonko (NY-20) introduced the Preserve Science in Policymaking Act of 2019. The bill would prevent the President from unilaterally dissolving Federal Advisory Committees – groups of scientists and academics that advise the executive branch on how to make their regulations evidence-based – without the approval of apolitical civil servants and a public notice and comment period.

The bill will give the American people greater insight into how the executive branch interprets and implements federal law.

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House would be opening a formal impeachment inquiry:

"Donald Trump's use of the office of the presidency to pressure a foreign government to interfere in our elections is an unprecedented abuse of power and an impeachable offense.

"I announced my support for opening an impeachment inquiry in May after it became clear that the President's obstruction of legitimate congressional investigations was preventing us from carrying out our duties.

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD), announced that the Chicago Transit Red and Purple Modernization Phase 1 project will receive a $100 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant will be used for ongoing improvements to the Red and Purple heavy rail lines on the north side of Chicago.

U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) reintroduced the Trafficking Reduction and Criminal Enforcement (TRACE) Act, which cracks down on the illegal gun market by improving gun tracking data. The bill also repeals the Tiahrt Amendments, which heavily reduces law enforcement's pursuit of criminals who buy and sell illegal guns.
