Quigley Statement on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Address to Congress
WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), released the following statement in response to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to a Joint Session of Congress:
“Today’s address to a Joint Session of Congress by India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, highlighted the similarities between the world’s largest democracies – a shared belief in the freedom of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It also focused on improved ties between our two nations under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. Since his election, India has embarked on an ambitious vision to reduce extreme poverty, improve education outcomes, empower women, tackle climate change, and unleash India’s economic potential. And in recent years, India has become a valuable national security alley in an ever-increasing area of importance, the Asian-Pacific region. It was an honor to be in attendance to hear Prime Minister Modi speak today and I look forward to continuing to work with his Administration through my role on the House Intelligence Committee.”
