Catching Up With Quigley: Week of September 15
Dear Friend,
Tensions in America are incredibly high right now. I am continuing to condemn political violence in all forms and do my part to try to lower the temperature of our political discourse. Here are three things I did on your behalf this week:
1. Condemned Political Violence and Opposed a Resolution Honoring Charlie Kirk's Legacy
Political violence has no place in our nation. I have said this before, and I will continue to say it until this scourge has been eliminated from our politics.
This week, Republicans introduced a resolution that required two things. First, that I condemn political violence. And second, that I honor the legacy of Charlie Kirk. I have done the first. But I cannot do the second.
I will not be party to the Right’s efforts to turn a terrible murder into a cudgel against their opponents. All leaders across the political spectrum must immediately lower the temperature of our political discourse through real action, instead of fanning the flames.
2. Voted Against Republicans Continuing the Affordability Crisis
The government funding deadline is coming up on September 30, and today, Republicans held a vote on a bill that does nothing to undo Trump's illegal cuts or bring down skyrocketing health care prices. I voted no.
This is not an isolated act. Since shutting the government down, Republicans have terminated funding for energy projects and other transportation projects, all of which are in states that voted against President Trump in the presidential election.
Since Trump assumed office, he has unilaterally cut programs funded by Congress that my constituents rely on. If Republicans want to earn my vote, they need to take real steps to rectify those harms and prevent Trump from continuing to act like a wannabe King.
3. Joined Marie Newman on Substack Live
Earlier this week, I joined former Congresswoman Marie Newman for a Substack Live to discuss a wide range of topics from Trump's threats against Chicago to political violence and foreign affairs.
