Catching Up With Quigley: Week of July 28

E-Newsletters

Dear Friend,

I'm happy to be back home in Chicago for the first week of the August District Work Period. Here are three things I did on your behalf.

1. Celebrated Rep. Danny Davis's Public Service

Rep. Danny Davis

This week, Congressman Danny Davis announced that he will not be running for re-election. For the past 16 years, I've had the honor of serving with Congressman Davis. From his work on the Cook County Board of Commissioners to his time as Dean of the Illinois Delegation in Washington, he has spent his career fighting for Chicago. Congressman Davis has been a tireless advocate for underserved communities on Chicago’s West Side, including for Black young people. I’m so grateful to have served alongside him.

2. Urged the Trump Administration to Protect Ukrainians

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, tens of thousands of Ukrainians have sought refuge in the United States through the Uniting for Ukraine (U4U) program. Thanks to massive processing backlogs by Citizenship and Immigration Services, many of those individuals are facing an expiration of their legal status. This week, I led 33 of my colleagues in urging the administration to end the backlog and process requests for legal status and work authorizations.

3. Shamed Republicans for Dodging a Vote on Epstein

Last week, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson cancelled votes in the House and sent Congress into recess a day early- all to avoid a vote to release the Epstein files. President Trump promised time and time again during his campaign to bring an end to this conspiracy theory by releasing everything there was to know. Now, he's dodging calls for transparency by his own voters, and Republicans in Congress are helping him do it.

I talked with MSNBC over the weekend about how embarrassing this is for the entire Republican party. Watch my interview HERE.
