CLTV News Anchor: A U.S. Senate panel will hold a hearing this afternoon on human rights and other issues related to solitary confinement in the federal prison system. Ahead of the hearing, Congressman Mike Quigley of Illinois and Jared Polis of Colorado are expressing their concerns about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender inmates assigned to solitary confinement in order to protect them from the general prison population. Quigley and Polis say it amounts to punishing the victims when prisons replace the threat of physical and sexual abuse with the isolation and cruelty of solitary confinement.
