In America, 34 lives are lost every single day to gun violence. The group "Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group of 70 mayors from across the country, organized a nationwide tour to highlight the need to subject every gun sale to a background check with an up-to-date database to help lower that number. The Fix Gun Checks billboard truck tour began in Times Square and keeps a running toll of the number of the Americans murdered by guns since the tragic shooting in Tucson, Arizona. Their National Drive will pass through 25 states to meet with mayors, law enforcement officials, faith leaders, victims of gun violence, sportsmen, and supporters.

On February 28, the bus stopped in Chicago at the Homan Square police department, where illegal guns confiscated by the Chicago Police are stored. Congressman Quigley joined Mayor Richard M. Daley to discuss the need to keep guns out of dangerous hands and off Chicago's streets. Quigley told the tragic story of 16-year-old Chicago public school student Blair Holt, who stepped in front of a bullet to save a friend from a gangmember who had opened fire on a city bus.

"If a young man can take a bullet to save a friend's life, Congress ought to be able to take a tough vote, he said.

Quigley's remarks begin at 1:25
