Quigley Welcomes Polish Ambassador to Wrigley Field

August 23, 2011

CHICAGO -- On Saturday, Rep. Mike Quigley (IL-05) welcomed Poland's Ambassador Robert Kupiecki to Wrigley Field, and accompanied the Ambassador as he toured the ballpark and threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Quigley represents Illinois' fifth Congressional District, which is home not only to Wrigley field, but also one of the largest populations of Polish-Americans in the United States.

"I was very pleased to greet Ambassador Kupiecki at Wrigley Field in my district," said Quigley. "We will continue to work together to improve relations between our two great nations and the lives of Polish-Americans in my district. Poland's inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program has long been a priority for me, and I look forward to the day when Poles can visit our country visa-free."

Quigley has worked tirelessly to promote Polish-American relations during his two terms in Congress, including introducing legislation to expand the Visa Waiver Program to include Poland that has been endorsed by President Obama. Last summer, he traveled to Poland and attended a conference in Krakow commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Community of Democracies. While there, he also paid his respects at the grave of former President Lech Kaczynski, and delivered a resolution on behalf of then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the entire House of Representatives expressing condolences for his passing in a tragic plane crash earlier that year.
