Quigley Votes to Protect Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions

May 9, 2019

Today, Rep. Mike Quigley (IL-05) voted to pass H.R. 986, the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act, to block the Trump administration's October 2018 guidance that gave states the option to weaken the Affordable Care Act's protections for Americans living with both chronic and acute medical conditions. Following the vote, Quigley released the following statement:

"Despite the President's insistence that they want to protect Americans with pre-existing conditions, guidance like this reveals their true colors. This guidance places the health and livelihoods of thousands of Illinoisans at risk, particularly those most vulnerable. I'm proud to stand with my colleagues today to pass legislation to reverse this dangerous guidance and ensure that Americans with pre-existing conditions retain the lifesaving health care they rely on."
