Quigley Statement on Violent Assault on Paul Pelosi

October 28, 2022

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL), released a statement after learning that Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, was assaulted in his San Francisco home:

"I am very relieved to learn that Speaker Pelosi's husband, Paul, is expected to make a full recovery. My thoughts are with the Speaker and her entire family right now. This incident makes one thing clear—violent political rhetoric has consequences, and unfortunately, this is not the first time we are seeing those consequences play out. Inflammatory language from right-wing commentators and GOP political leaders must be taken seriously. Not only should we take these threats and hateful language at face value, but we must also be doing more to protect all government officials—Democrats and Republicans alike. This moment represents not just a tragic time for the Speaker's family, but a dark time for our country, where individuals are emboldened by far-right media, conservative elected officials, and yes the former president himself, Donald Trump—to commit dangerous acts. Violent rhetoric must end and those perpetuating it must be held accountable."
