Quigley Statement on Speaker Pelosi Announcement That She Will Not Seek Leadership Position
Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement after Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she will not seek the role of Minority Leader in the 118th Congress:
"Speaker Pelosi was the first woman to lead Congress. She has led House Democrats for more than a decade and mentored generations of Democratic members. She has overseen the passage of some of the most influential legislation of our time, including the Affordable Care Act, the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and, in an extraordinary moment of partisan gridlock, she ushered through historic climate change legislation, gun violence prevention, and infrastructure legislation.
"History will remember her for shattering the glass ceiling of Congress and as the most effective Speaker of the House in the modern age.
"Every American owes her an incredible debt of gratitude.
"Her leadership will be sorely missed but I am confident that her influence on our party, and on the nation, will still be felt for decades."
