Quigley Statement on Rumored Trump Administration Plan to Close EPA Region 5 Office in Chicago

April 18, 2017

CHICAGO – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement on recent news reports that the Trump Administration may close the Environmental Protection Agency's Region 5 office in Chicago. EPA's Region 5 office is responsible for environmental monitoring and cleanup in the Great Lakes region, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio:

"The regional offices of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are responsible for much of the important work required to ensure that Americans have clean air and clean water, free from toxins and pollutants. If true, the Trump Administration's plans to cut or close EPA regional offices is misguided and dangerous and moving the Region 5 office from Chicago risks the well being and productivity of the entire Great Lakes region. If the Administration is serious about creating jobs and helping local industry, they should understand that billions of dollars in economic productivity rely on a healthy Great Lakes and well managed natural resources around the country."
