Quigley Statement on President Trump’s First 100 Days
CHICAGO – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement recapping President Trump's first 100 days in office, which will be marked tomorrow, April 29:
"Donald Trump had high hopes for his first 100 days in office, promising progress, security, and opportunity for Americans across the country. Unfortunately, he didn't deliver on that pledge and instead betrayed the trust of those who elected him by ushering in weeks of dysfunction, obstruction, and dishonesty. From an unprecedented lack of transparency and unthinkable attacks on civil liberties to a disastrous health care roll-out and horrendous immigration policies targeting Muslims and Latinos, it is no surprise that less than 40 percent of Americans have faith in their Commander in Chief. Additionally, by employing uninformed and impulsive decision-making on major national security challenges and the very real environmental threats we face, President Trump has made America less safe and less respected since the day he stepped into the Oval Office.
"President Trump spent a significant portion of his first 100 days attacking the great city of Chicago, which I am proud to call home and represent in Congress. His promise to ‘send in the feds' and threat to strip federal funding from our city serve as additional examples of empty rhetoric rather than reality. His misguided statements on immigrants and gun violence within this city were never met with the bipartisan cooperation and assistance needed to address these challenges.
"No one denies that it is easier to fire off tweets, disregard facts, and take short-cuts than it is to pursue genuine dialogue and actions that result in bipartisan solutions, but only one approach will continue to make America great. I hope we see a more thoughtful approach during the next 100 days."
