Quigley Statement on President Biden’s Request for Aid to Ukraine

April 28, 2022

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, released the following statement on the President's request for an additional $33 billion in Emergency Supplemental Funding for Ukraine.

"I am pleased that the President has put forward a robust request to provide additional military support and aid to Ukraine. I hope that the House and Senate will take it up as soon as possible and that it will receive unanimous support from my colleagues.

"The outcome of this war will not only determine if Ukraine's democracy prevails but will also determine the future of democracy across the globe. I know that Ukraine will still need more assistance. That's why I'm glad that the House passed the Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act today to ensure that Ukraine gets this help in a timely manner moving forward. By cutting through the red tape, the U.S. can expedite the delivery of weapons and munitions to Ukraine, and make sure Putin knows our resolve will not waver.

"As we take these critical steps to aid Ukraine and weaken Russia, we must also support our allies in Europe who are facing economic and political repercussions for their ongoing support for Ukraine. The entire free world must move toward a clean energy future so that we are never left vulnerable to the whims of autocrats again."
