Quigley Statement on President Biden’s Emissions Reduction Announcement
Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), Vice-Chair of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, released the following statement after President Biden’s announcement that the United States will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50-52 percent below 2005 levels by 2030 and will achieve net-zero emissions by no later than 2050:
“After four years of an administration that repeatedly buried its head in the sand to the existential threat of climate change, President Biden is stepping up and returning the United States to our rightful place as a leader in the global effort to combat climate change.
“As the President welcomes 40 global heads of state to his Leaders Summit on Climate today he is clearly leading the way to a better future. The administration’s emissions reduction announcements will help our nation achieve the combined goals of saving our planet while creating millions of jobs in the process.
“If we want to recover from this pandemic and put people to work, the best path forward is through climate action. Not only will jobs be created and emissions reduced, but everyday Americans will see the benefit of energy-efficient technologies in their daily lives, with families around the country saving significant amounts on their electric bills each month.
“As I said when President Biden re-joined the Paris Climate Agreement, our future requires a nationwide commitment to addressing the climate crisis. I am incredibly pleased that the President is continuing that commitment and I look forward to working with the White House as we take on this enormous challenge.”
