Quigley Statement on Passing of Michael Bauer
Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) issued the following statement on the passing of Michael Bauer:
“It is with profound sadness that I learned of the death of Michael Bauer. For over 35 years Michael fought for the rights of every citizen of our city, state and country with gusto, boundless passion, and a complete and total commitment to equality and justice. Always at the forefront of each battle the LBGT community has faced since the AIDS epidemic began devastating the community, Michael connected elected officials, business leaders, and non-profit organizations to elevate the visibility of the community and safeguard its rights. Inspired by his own mother’s story as a 103-year old survivor of the Holocaust, Michael understood that the future of humanity - of the LGBTQ, Jewish, pro-Israel, and civil rights communities, in particular - was dependent on protecting against oppression; he took the directive of ‘Never again’ literally and devoted his life to that end.
“Michael’s boisterous voice, warm heart, and unabashed enthusiasm for the pursuit of justice will be missed by all, leaving a void in Chicago’s soul. My thoughts and prayers are with his husband of 37 years, Roger, his mother, and all his friends and family during this difficult time. Michael’s legacy will endure for generations to come.”
