Quigley Statement on the Passing of Chicago Political Icon Abner ‘Ab’ Mikva
CHICAGO – U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement on the passing of Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, former Illinois Congressman Abner Mikva, who passed away at age 90:
“Abner ‘Ab’ Mikva was an extraordinary person who uniquely served all three branches of government as a federal judge, congressman and White House counsel. But more than a great political mind, Ab was a mentor to many and an example to all in his fight for justice and ethical government. In the House, Ab had an excellent record of fighting in favor of civil rights and for reasonable gun violence prevention measures. And he has inspired a countless number of young Americans to pursue careers in public service through the Mikva Challenge, which he helped found with his wife, Zoe. My thoughts and prayers are with Ab’s wife, daughters, grandchildren and many friends as they mourn this heavy loss.”
