Quigley Statement on Opposition to NDAA

December 11, 2024

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on his decision to vote against the National Defense Authorization Act:

“I have always believed that some legislation should be above partisan politics regardless of who holds the majority. This includes the National Defense Authorization Act, which I have consistently supported throughout my time in Congress. Unfortunately, Speaker Johnson decided at the last minute to use this legislation as an opportunity to attack children. Rather than prioritizing the American people, Republicans are denying families the ability to make their own private health care decisions.

“I sincerely hope that in the new year, when Republicans assume control of the levers of power, they remember who it is we are meant to serve. If they do not, I stand ready to defend our most vulnerable communities from their attacks.”
