Quigley Statement on UN Sanctions on Iran

June 9, 2010

WASHINGTON -- Today, Congressman Mike Quigley (D-IL) released the following statement after the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution on Iran sanctions:

"I applaud the UN Security Council's decision and the Administration's priority to send a clear message that the development of nuclear weapons by Iran will not be tolerated by our global community. However, we must do more.

As we saw last weekend when Iran began readying its military to intercede in Israel's ongoing conflict with Hamas terrorists at the Gaza blockade, these are not our friends. Iran has been quick in their attempts to disguise hatred and threats as humanitarian efforts when, in reality, they only seek to endanger us and our allies.

I'm glad to see this step in the right direction, so that Congress can now enact even tougher restrictions to keep Iran nuclear-free and Israel safe."
