Quigley Statement on the Passing of Mayor Byrne

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement upon hearing the news of the passing of former Chicago Mayor Jane Byrne:

"I am saddened to learn of the passing of Mayor Jane Byrne, a great trailblazer and pioneer. She defied the pundits and the political insiders to become the first woman elected mayor, and proved that good ideas matter more than political armies. She will not only have a special place in our history, but she leaves a lasting legacy. My thoughts and prayers are with her daughter, Kathy, and her many friends."
