Quigley Statement on the Passage of H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act
May 4, 2011
WASHINGTON -- Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3, a far-reaching anti-choice bill misleadingly named the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortions Act.
"This vote marks a sad and disheartening day in America's history. H.R. 3 erases decades of progress for women and turns back the clock to a time when women could not make their own life decisions. I was proud to vote against this bill, and I will continue to fight to ensure that it never becomes law."
During afternoon floor debate, Quigley led a series of speeches opposing H.R. 3. Throughout his two terms in Congress, he has sought to protect a woman's right to choose.
