Quigley Statement on Rosh Hashanah

September 18, 2009

Today, Congressman Mike Quigley (D-IL) made the following statement in recognition of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which begins at sundown tonight:

"Tonight, across our district and around the world, Jews will gather to celebrate the beginning of a new year and reflect on the days behind us.

It is a tradition that spans generations and thousands of years. It is a cycle that connects people in the face of hardship and persecution. And it is a time for families to renew those values which guide them every day.

Whether you celebrate Rosh Hashanah or pause for reflection in another way on another day, I hope you will find time to think about service, justice, and compassion for others.

From my family to those celebrating this weekend, I wish you a happy, peaceful, and sweet New Year."
