Quigley Statement on President Obama’s Keystone Pipeline Veto

February 24, 2015

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Quigley (IL-05) released the following statement in support of President Obama's veto of the Keystone XL Pipeline:

"The Keystone XL Pipeline is a bad deal for America. I am proud the president vetoed the pipeline, which is falsely advertised as a job creator and provider of cheaper gas. The truth is that Keystone would have made gas more expensive for folks in Chicago and the Midwest. The Keystone Pipeline will also have devastating effects on our environment. It would carry tar sands oil, one of the dirtiest fuels on the Earth, leading to harmful leaks and spills that are way too common with these pipelines. I am committed to a clean energy future for generations to come, and I will continue to work with my colleagues to find clean energy solutions that create jobs and make energy more affordable."
