Quigley Statement on General Casimir Pulaski Memorial Day

October 12, 2010

CHICAGO -- Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) issued the following statement in honor of General Casimir Pulaski Memorial Day, which occurred Monday:

"Though he was a native of Poland, General Casimir Pulaski was instrumental in America's fight for independence, and gave his life in the service of our fledgling nation," said Quigley. "His dedication to liberty and justice for all will forever be remembered by both Poles and Americans. I am proud today to remember and honor his life and sacrifice on General Casimir Pulaski Memorial Day."

In his first term in Congress, Quigley has been a staunch advocate for Polish-American causes, including helping to pass a measure to grant honorary U.S. citizenship to Casimir Pulaski. He has also pushed for the inclusion of Poland in the Visa Waiver Program, and visited Poland this summer to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Community of Democracies.
